A Pacific Gas and Electric project aimed at meeting the demands of an expanding biotech campus in Foster City will begin in the coming weeks and involve boring a tunnel underneath State Route 92. Existing infrastructure cannot meet the needs of Gilead Sciences, a multi-billion dollar international pharmaceutical company that’s continuing to build out its nearly 72-acre campus in Foster City. Now, PG&E plans to install 2,200 feet of a new 8-inch steel gas main along a stretch of southbound Foster City Boulevard leading toward the biotech company’s headquarters.
Obama Signs Pipeline Safety Bill Into Law
President Obama on Wednesday signed into law a sweeping pipeline safety bill, which includes changes to the Department of Transportation's (DOT) Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA). S 2276, also known as SAFE PIPES Act of 2016, passed both chambers of Congress with broad bipartisan support. It cleared the House on June 8, followed by the Senate five days later (see Daily GPI, June 14; June 9).
TransCanada Will Build a $2.1 Billion Gas Pipeline in Mexico
TransCanada’s Keystone XL oil pipeline expansion was rejected by President Obama late last year. TransCanada said it would build and operate a $2.1 billion natural gas pipeline in Mexico, as the Canadian company ramps up in the Latin American country at a time when its key projects closer to home are facing delays.

Wisconsin gas pipeline shut down indefinitely
The only pipeline that sends gas from Milwaukee to Northeast Wisconsin could be shut down much longer than initially planned. The West Shore Pipe Line company says it's closed indefinitely, while officials determine whether it needs to be replaced.
Centre may revive Myanmar-Bangladesh-India gas pipeline
The centre is exploring reviving the shelved Myanmar-Bangladesh-India gas pipeline to transport gas from Russia as a part of its ambitious Rs 1,30,000 crore plan to make the northeastern part of the country a ‘hydrocarbon hub’ in next 15 years with an eye on capturing the energy market in Bhutan, Myanmar and other South East Asian countries.

Africa’s richest man and owner of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote has said that ongoing $17 billion Gas pipeline, fertiliser, petrochemicals and refineries project at the Lekki Free Trade Zone (LFTZ), Lagos, would provide unhindered availability of petrol in the country. He pointed out the the Gas pipeline when completed would also generate power for the country.

Currently, gas demand in New England averages 2.5-3.0 Bcf/day, and demand peaks in the winter, however, reaching around 4 Bcf/day. Gas pipeline capacity into the region is around 3.5 bcfd, with the rest available from Everett LNG imports. Rising gas demand though hasn’t meant rising pipeline capacity.
